For 1000 years now, the highest dignitaries of the Christian churches have been wearing the chant of the Cross during their liturgical ceremonies (“pontificals"), in addition to other insignia, also a so-called pontifical ring, for example bishops a bishop's ring, cardinals a cardinal's ring or even the Pope the so-called fisherman's ring.
As a rule, these rings were particularly magnificently designed and equipped only with the finest materials. These extraordinarily magnificent rings are also rarely handed down and are certainly among the highlights of every medieval museum collection. That is why this was such an outstanding 11th-century pontifical ring Idol for our latest highlight from our goldsmith studio.
For our replica of such a medieval ring made of 925 silver, the on the original unfortunately lost pearl wreath carefully restored and the ring in the center with a living one Citrine The ring head was also further refined with a hand-engraved, circumferential Latin inscription: "Auro loquente omnis oratio inanis est" is written there, which roughly means "When gold speaks, the world is silent".
The outer edge of the ring head was elaborately set with cultured pearls, with the dark red almandines typical of the time, with many small spherical pyramids and even with real sapphires. At the end, the pontifical ring was patinated in a complex manner. This means that our ring suits every modern-day knight or nobleman or every fair maiden or maiden. 😉
The ring size of the medieval ring presented here is "61". The ring head with the gemstone settings is approx. 29 x 32 mm and almost one centimeter high. The smuggled citrine, i.e. authentically cut in the Middle Ages, in the middle of the ring with its many interesting inclusions measures 13 x 10 mm.
Of course, this ring can also be made in a different ring size, with your preferred gemstones and even made entirely of gold. Even the surrounding inscription can be customized for you.
