“Goldsmithing” course as part of the exhibition “EVA's BEAUTY CASE”

Goldsmith courses Vogelsberg

In April 2017 I received an invitation from LVR State Museum in Bonn, as part of the accompanying programme to the exhibition “EVA'S BEAUTY CASE“ to complement an evening event with a course on “goldsmithing”.

The event took up the theme of the exhibition “Jewelry and Styling in the Mirror of Time” and offered museum visitors a fashion show, a themed tour through the exhibition, various lectures and, as a further addition, my short goldsmith course

The museum staff very professionally helped me to transport my course table for 6 people and to set up the extensive tools, materials and equipment. A big compliment to the team of the LVR LandesMuseum Bonn for the great support.

In any case, the event was a great success. There were numerous - mostly female - visitors and my course table was already full shortly after the start of the event.

The participants in my “compact course” were able to try out different working techniques such as sawing, filing or rolling and even make a simple ring if they wanted.

At times, the rush at the course table was so great that I had some trouble answering all the questions from the many diligent course participants and interested parties appropriately.

I think everyone had a great time that evening and some participants even started their journey home proudly with a new piece of jewelry that they made themselves in just one evening.

The feedback after this event was more than encouraging. I will always remember this special evening at the LVR LandesMuseum Bonn, the fabulous exhibition atmosphere and the many friendly participants in my “Goldsmithing” course.

Interesting facts about the LVR LandesMuseum Bonn

The LVR-LandesMuseum Bonn is one of the most important cultural history museums in Germany. It was founded in 1820 and is located in the heart of Bonn, where it serves as a central institution for the research and presentation of the Rhenish cultural and regional history. The collection includes an impressive variety of exhibits that cover a period of more than 400.000 years - from the Stone Age to the present day. Of particular note are the archaeological finds that impressively document the lives of the people in the region.

An outstanding exhibit in the permanent exhibition is the world-famous skullcap of the so-called Neanderthal from Mettmann, which is one of the most important finds of early history. The museum also displays a variety of Roman artifacts, including magnificent mosaics, statues and everyday objects that provide insights into life in the Rhineland during the Roman Empire. The medieval collections present works of art, weapons and religious objects that reflect the cultural and spiritual life of the region.

The LVR State Museum is not only known for its extensive collection, but also for its innovative museum teaching methods. Interactive stations, multimedia presentations and specially designed offers for children and families - such as my "Goldsmithing" course - make the visit a lively experience. Regular special exhibitions address current topics or special historical events and broaden the view of cultural history.

The museum sees itself as a place of dialogue and knowledge transfer, inviting people of all ages to discover the history of the region and its significance for the present. With its extensive educational offerings and rich cultural program, the LVR-LandesMuseum Bonn makes a significant contribution to cultural diversity and education in the Rhineland.
