The model for our large disc fibula was a find from the Lombard Empire (Upper Italy, Lombardy) of the 7th century at Trosino Castle. Our replica of this large disc fibula was made entirely of sterling silver and then gilded with fine gold. In the center is a luminous emerald cabochon. Hand-cut Japanese cloisonné enamel in dark almandine red is another highlight of this early medieval fibula. On the back there is a brooch (pin) typical of the time as well as a pendant eyelet, which sits slightly outside the exact vertical axis of the fibula and could be used to sew and thus additionally secure the fibula on the garment. The unusual piece of jewelery should therefore primarily be worn as a fibula or brooch. The fibula is slightly patinated in order to get as close as possible to the ancient originals.
