Our precious gem binding in the exhibition “Ridders & Kastelen” in The Hague

Ridders and Castles The Hague

On 28.09.2017/2008/XNUMX we were invited by the Museon in The Hague to the opening of the exhibition “Ridders & Kastelen – een nieuwe kijk op de middeleeuwen” (Knights & Castles – A new look at the Middle Ages). The reason for this was the loan of our magnificent gemstone binding from XNUMX to this exhibition for a period of one year.

The exhibition is primarily designed for families and depicts the different lifestyles of selected professional groups in the Middle Ages, such as a knight, a farmer, a monk, a tradeswoman, a lady of the castle, etc.

The exhibition then opened to the general public on the following day and it was already very well attended when the exhibition started in the morning. Above all, the intended target group - families with children - were well represented on the first day of the exhibition.

At various hands-on stations, you could immerse yourself in the world of the Middle Ages. For example, you could find out how heavy a knight's armor actually is, which herbs help with which diseases, you could virtually forge a sword yourself, learn a medieval dance or slip into the clothes of medieval townspeople.

Our book cover was assigned to the exhibition segment on the living environment of a monk and his scriptorium. There you could virtually explore a monastery or get acquainted with the production of a medieval book. In any case, our gemstone book cover was very well received by the public:

In any case, at the end of this exciting day, a visibly proud lender left the museum grounds of the Museon in The Hague 😉

At the end of our visit to The Hague, of course, we were allowed to visit the Mauritshuis Museum not missing. The abundance and quality of the world-famous paintings from the Golden Age of Dutch painting were again very impressive for us. From our point of view, a worthy end to a very special appointment in this great city.
