An early medieval fibula with emerald

Large disc fibula

The perfect addition to any committed medieval garb is definitely a primer as authentic as possible robe clasp. History has produced a myriad of different types of fibulae. The model for our early medieval brooch is certainly one of the most magnificent robe clasps or gold disc brooches from the early Middle Ages and was probably only accessible to the very highest - probably aristocratic or even courtly - circles.

As usual, we have undone all the defects left by the ravages of time on the historical original. The historical primer, which served as our inspiration, comes from a grave find near Trosino Castle in northern Italy (Lombardy) from the 7th century AD.

We replaced the almandine originally used on the original and almost all of which were lost there with Japanese cloisonné enamel, which shines in a slightly transparent almandine red when exposed to direct sunlight. Of course, we can also make this fibula with the true-to-original, hand-cut almandines if you wish.

In the center of our version sits a valuable, luminous emerald. And the filigree of this disc fibula is reminiscent of the influence of the Vikings at that time.

The slight patination brings our early medieval primer very close to the historical originals. All in all, from our point of view, this "splendid primer" is definitely a really exquisite addition to any sophisticated medieval garb.
